SUMMARY:EU Rules on labeling of products from “Occupied Palestinian Terri
tories”: Consumer protection or foreign policy?
DESCRIPTION:European Union policy is that all the territory ‘outside the
Green Line’ – including what is known as ‘East Jerusalem’ – does
not belong to Israel\, that a Palestinian state should be built on that t
erritory\, and that Israeli “settlements” are illegal. It requires pro
ducts imported from those territories to clearly indicate these “facts
”. Already several European importers of wines from these territories ha
ve been punished. But are these indeed true? And do these requirements com
ply with international law\, or is the EU itself distorting international
law? This webinar is intended for a global audience\, including lawyers\,
journalists and policy makers. We will look at the status of the “Occupi
ed Palestinian Territories” under international law and see if the EU’
s labeling policy regarding products from these territories can stand the
test of international law. The speakers are recognised experts in this fie
ld\, including Adv. Jonathan Turner (UK)\, Prof. Eugene Kontorovich (Israe
l/US) and representatives from the EU/Brussels.\n\nMore information and re
